We grouped under the term west island, boroughs and cities of the west part of Montreal Island as Saint-Anne-de-Bellevue Bellevue, Pierrefonds, Senneville, Bai d'Urfe, Roxboro, Kirkland, Beaconsfield and 'Ile Bizard.
The occupation of the West Island dates backfrom 18 th century, as shown by some very old country houses, mills and military buildings all located along the banks of the St. Lawrence River and Rivière des Prairie.
Very residential, this part of Montreal Island is often regarded as the first and nearest Montreal suburb without having to cross a bridge.
