The Lachine district formerly known as town of Lachine has a long history of occupation of its territory as testifies by old buildings present on the side of Lachine Canal. Towards the end of XVII century, furs traders came to install station of trade. The place is then ideal because of it location downstream from the rapids of Lachine helping deliveries of fur by the Amerindians. The Town of Lachine was the first city connected by train with Montreal.
In 2002 the Town of Lachine was merged to Montreal and became Arrondissement Lachine
