Short History of Verdun
The name of this old city comes from the name of Côte-de-Verdun. This sector use to belong to Jacques Ber and Charles le Moine, rich furs traders.
In 1874 the village of Saint-Pierre river is created before taking the name of Verdun in 1878. Following many floods, municipal authority made build a dam in 1895. In 1909 Verdun become a city and following a phenomenal growth Verdun becomes the third larger city in Quebec province with mainly French speaking workers.
In 1956 the Nuns island is amalgamated at the city of Verdun.
In 2002 the city of Verdun becomes a district of Montreal (Arrondissement Verdun) and have a population of 60 564 inhabitants.
