Before becoming a covered shopping center as well as high-end condominium, the building was the Mont-Royal Hotel, one of the most chic of the city with a large interior courtyard and its luxurious restaurants At this time, the city of Montreal was the economic center of Canada and major hotels were competing in luxury and good taste to attract more and more tourists.

The building Cours Mont-Royal is now connected to the Underground Montreal and has an direct access with the Peel metro station.

The building was commissioned by the company United Hotel Company of America. Upon opening, the hotel had 1046 rooms and many restaurants and even a medical clinic completed services. It was built on the former site of the Montreal High School.

The building has a Fine Arts architectural influence
