Historical development
In an Olympic context, while Montreal is the centre of the world and that the hotels are proliferating all around, the Quebec government decided to build a large convention centre for the province’s metropolis.

Recent renovations doubled the Convention centre size. The construction lasted from 1999 to 2002 with a loan of 240 million dollars. The integration of historic buildings and the presence of the underground Ville-Marie expressway and Montreal Metro add a lot of works for engineers. The building remained open for the duration of the renovation.

The convention center has thus contributed to make of Montreal the city who receives the most international congresses in Canada.
