Habitat67

Informations and facts

Habitat 67 is undoubtedly one of the most famous buildings of Montreal around the world. This set of concrete was originally conceived as a pilot project for Expo 67 by Moshe Safdie, then a young student of architecture at McGill. The Habitat or Housing was a major topic of the International Exhibition of 1967, “Terre des Hommes”.

168 apartments are placed in a structure, making no apartment having an adjacent wall with other block.

The whole complex is made of 354 precast concrete boxes (146 houses/apartments) and built on an artificial peninsula built by widening the protection levee flood built in the 19 th century. The huge structure integrates wonderfully small streets and terraces and offers a spectacular view to its residents.
