One of the largest CEGEP in Quebec with nearly 6,000 students and some 430 regular teachers, the "Cégep du Vieux" is born from the Parent Report, a document that deeply changed the post-secondary education in Quebec.
Cégep was created in 1968 from the merger of several existing technical institutes (Institute of Applied Arts, Mont Saint-Louis, Institut de Technologie de Montreal, Sainte-Marie, École des arts graphiques, school nurses hospitals in the city center).
The current building was inaugurated on 8 August 1976, more than 8 years after the creation of the institution.
