Sherbrooke Street, Montreal

Sherbrooke Street

Formerly known as the Baron hillside, the street was at the end of 18 iem sciècle the northern boundary ofMontreal City.

Away from the city, this street quickly became a place of choice for building large mansions (west part) in the heart of the Golden Square Mile at the end of 19 th century.

Now called the "Rue des Hotels", Sherbrooke Street has seen many of its most beautiful houses disappear by demolition as Van Horne Mansion, to make way for buildings all more ordinary than the other.

Street was named after Sir John Sherbrooke Coape, a soldier who was Lieutenant Governor of Nova Scotia.

1916 : Opening year of this street or name change
