The fact that Montreal is a city quite old explains the fact that there are many squares and public places. Unfortunately, this urban practice seems less then prevalent. Since the Place Emilie Gamelin design for 350 th anniversary of Montreal, no new public space has been created. International District brought new life to the Victoria Square. New trends in city development in Montreal, many private complex have the name of Place… like Place Ville-Marie .., Montreal Trust .. Dupuis giving the impression that private sector has taken over in city planning.
