Montreal Gay Village

Montreal Gay Village is located on St. Catherine Street between St. Hubert Street and Papineau in South Central district. This sector is formerly center of francophone commercial store with shops like Dupuis et Frère and the Pharmacy of Montreal as demonstrate by the beautiful grey stone buildings still standing.

Many shops, stores, restaurants and bar of the gay community have brought a revival in this Sainte-Catherine Street East sector left behind abandoned after several years of economic down. Now events such as the Gay Parade and the 2006 Outgames bring dynamism. Since 2007 St. Catherine Street is closed to traffic on weekends. The STM (Société de Transport de Montréal) has underline the special district by placing the colours of the rainbow in the aedicule of the Beaudry metro station.
