Old skyscrapers of Montreal

It was a time where Montreal was the industrial and financial center of Canada. Many Skyscrapers built at the beginning of the century testify so. Since the first Skyscraper, the New York Life Insurance, many others were built. During several years the limit was 10 storeys. Towards the beginning of the Thirties this municipal law was pushed back up to 30 floors, with the condition of having the storey higher than 10 in terrace compared to the street. In this series, there is the famous Aldred Building, the Royal Bank as well as the Bell Building. Largest among all was the Sun Life, built face to the Dominion public garden which dominated Montreal until the beginning of the Sixties before a new generation of skyscraper came shadowing. In 1929 came the recession, which put an end to this early skyscrapers period for a period of almost 30 years until the construction of new skyscraper in Montreal.
