W. W. Ogilvie Building

Picture Alexis Hamel 2011

Informations and facts

The building was built as the head office of the flour milling company then largely owned and run by W.W.Ogilvie. He was the youngest of the three brothers who had taken over the ownership of the mills, from their father Alexander and their uncle William Watson and greatly expanded them and was the last of them in the business. By the time of his death in 1900 he was the owner of the largest milling enterprise in Canada, some say the world, and was widely known as the 'miller king'. The name Ogilvie and their family crest was effaced from their carving in the stone above the door.
