| The Montreal Expos was Quebec's metropolis professional baseball team. The team was founded in May 1968 but his first matches begin following year. The team was named in honor of the 1967 Universal Exhibition. This team was in the Major League Baseball (MLB Major League Baseball).
The first season of the team took place at Jarry Stadium in Jarry Park of the same name. The games took place there until 1977, when the Expos team move to the new Olympic Stadium while construction on the tower are not yet complete.
Decline ...
While the Expos are doing quite well on the ground, the stands are emptying gradually, fans were missing month after month. While the franchise passes to hands Jeffrey Loria, the latter proposed a new stadium in Montreal downtown on a land located close to the ETS school in southern of Lucien-Lallier Metro Station. The owners are then convinced that a new location would make the franchise profitable. They believe that even if the new stadium is smaller, it would be more popular because of its downtown proximity. The project will never get out the ground. After last season in 2004, the franchise moved in 2005 to Washington DC to become the Nationals. |
