Sainte-Catherine Street

No particular reason explains the name of this commercial street of Montreal that cross several neighborhoods, from Hochelaga-Maisonneuve to Westmount. The Sainte-Catherine Street -Ste. Catherine- is the main commercial alley of Montreal since the early twentieth century when major retailers such as Morgan and the Birks jeweler camed where was living Montreal's english bourgeoisie. Soon, other department stores left the small Notre-Dame in Old Montreal to join the others. Later, with the arrival of the Simpsons and Eaton's the commercial vocation of this downtown street is confirmed.
