Berri Street, Montreal

Berri Street

This 3.9 km street hides under his concrete much of the Montreal' Metro Orange Line . This street was chosen because it was not commercial and therefore its closure for the work should not affect economic activity. This street goes from De La Commune in Old Montreal to train CP north of the Plateau Mont-Royal and to the north untill Cremazi Blvd. It was named in honor of Simon Despres said Berry, the first buyer of that portion of territory in 1659. Part of Berry Street is converted into a motorway. The proposed construction of a North-South Highway at this location, however, was quickly rejected.

1876 : Opening year of this street or name change
Former name of this street : rue Berry rue Saint Gilles rue Pontiac, rue Saint-Denis, chemin des tanneries.
