The city of Montreal West is located west of the Notre-Dame-de-Grace district, stuck between the Candians National and Canadian Pacific tracks.

The small town of Montreal West was incorporated in 1897 on a land approximately 1.6 square kilometer size while there were just over 300 souls. William Smithson Lingleyen was the first mayor. Already around 1940, population climb over 3400 inhabitants. The 2007 census of the municipality counted 5,339 inhabitants.
